Where it came from
Visions of Duplicity was released in 2021 as part of the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Commander set, a collection designed to complement the main horror-themed expansion. Within the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem, these supplemental Commander decks are curated to introduce new mechanics and flavor-specific cards that cater to the popular multiplayer format, often focusing on the gothic, supernatural aesthetic of the Innistrad plane.
The card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, a long-time contributor to the game known for his expressive, atmospheric fantasy style. His work here emphasizes the psychological dread associated with the setting, capturing a sense of magical deception and instability. The card was well-received by players for its tactical versatility in blue decks, offering a unique way to manage board states through permanent exchange mechanics.
