Where it came from
Visions of Duplicity was released in 2021 as part of the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Commander set, a collection themed around the gothic horror setting of Innistrad. The card was designed to support the set's focus on blue-aligned manipulation and the supernatural aesthetics of the plane. It functions as a sorcery that allows players to exchange control of permanents, embodying the thematic elements of deception and shifting loyalties inherent to the set's narrative.
The artwork for this card was created by artist Livia Prima, who has contributed extensively to the Magic: The Gathering universe. In designing this piece, Prima aimed to capture the ethereal and unsettling nature of Innistrad's magic, utilizing deep blues and haunting lighting to evoke a sense of uncanny displacement. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players of the Commander format, who valued its strategic utility in multiplayer games where board state control is paramount.
