Where it came from
Vivid Marsh was originally released in the 2007 Lorwyn set, designed as part of a cycle of land cards intended to help players manage multiple colors of mana in the Limited and Constructed environments. The card was selected for inclusion in the 2013 Modern Masters set, a curated release that sought to bring powerful and highly playable cards back into circulation for the Modern format. Its presence in Modern Masters provided players with necessary utility for their mana bases while celebrating the visual design language established during the card's debut.
The artwork for the original release was created by the artist John Avon, whose landscape illustrations are staples of the game's aesthetic. Avon focused on capturing an ethereal, dreamlike quality that matched the Lorwyn plane’s folklore-inspired setting. The art was well-received by the community for its vibrant color palette and distinct atmosphere, establishing the Vivid cycle as a memorable addition to the game's expansive catalogue of land cards.
