Vivid Marsh was originally introduced in the Lorwyn expansion set in 2007, designed to provide players with flexible mana fixing in a tribal-themed environment. The card allows for both black mana production and the ability to tap for any color, provided the player utilizes one of two depletion counters placed on it upon entry. This cycle of lands was intended to smooth out color requirements in slower, more deliberate formats like Commander, where consistent mana access is essential for casting complex spells.

The art for this specific printing, featured in the 2017 Commander Anthology, was created by the acclaimed landscape artist John Avon. Known for his signature use of light and expansive, atmospheric vistas, Avon’s contribution to the Vivid cycle emphasizes a mystical, dreamlike aesthetic that aligns with the otherworldly nature of the Lorwyn plane.
