Where it came from
Vivien Reid, card number 252 in the Modern Horizons 3 Commander set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2024. This specific iteration serves as a reprint of the iconic Planeswalker character, designed to provide players with additional utility within the Commander format. The card features updated frame styling consistent with the set's aesthetic, which blends modern card layout technology with thematic elements reflecting Vivien's established lore as a nomadic archer and protector of nature.
The artistic direction for this release focuses on Vivien's connection to the wilds, emphasizing her signature bow and her ability to summon primal spirits. The illustration adheres to the high-fantasy visual language expected of Magic: The Gathering, aiming to ground the character in the specific atmosphere of the Modern Horizons series. While the card functions primarily as a gameplay piece, its reception within the community has been defined by its strategic versatility and its role in maintaining the continuity of the Planeswalker character roster.
