Vorthos, Steward of Myth

Vorthos, Steward of Myth was released in the 2022 Magic: The Gathering set Unfinity, a silver-bordered expansion designed to break the traditional mechanical rules of the game in favor of humor and meta-commentary. The card specifically honors 'Vorthos,' a community-coined term for players who prioritize flavor, lore, and narrative over competitive optimization. Its introduction served as a celebratory nod to the deep history of Magic's world-building, rewarding players who possess extensive knowledge of the game's expansive and often complex multiverse.

The card was illustrated by Victor Adame Minguez, who adopted a whimsical and grand style to capture the character's role as a keeper of stories. The design intent was to create a card that functions as a recursive tool for lore enthusiasts, allowing them to reveal cards based on their artistic or narrative connections to the game's setting. Upon its release, it was warmly received by the community as a thoughtful tribute to the creative side of the hobby, standing out as a unique bridge between the game's mechanical play and its literary identity.
