Wall of Corpses

Wall of Corpses was originally released as part of the Mirage expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game in 1996. Designed by Wizards of the Coast, this set marked a shift in the game's aesthetic and mechanical complexity, moving toward thematic cohesion centered on the continent of Jamuraa. The card itself reflects the dark, atmospheric fantasy motifs prevalent in the mid-nineties, intended to provide black-aligned decks with a sacrifice-based tactical utility.

The illustration for the original card was created by artist Heather Hudson. Her design captures the macabre and visceral nature of the card's function, emphasizing the grim imagery associated with black mana in the game's color pie. Upon its inclusion in The List—a curated selection of reprints integrated into modern booster packs—the card gained renewed visibility, offering both newer players and long-term collectors a chance to acquire a piece of Mirage-era history that remains consistent with the game's evolving visual language.
