Where it came from
Warrior's Oath was originally released in the 1999 Portal Three Kingdoms set, a product designed to introduce players in the Asian market to Magic: The Gathering. The card was created as a sorcery that granted an extra turn at the cost of losing the game at the end of that turn, a high-risk mechanic reflecting the dramatic historical warfare of the Three Kingdoms period in China.
The 2022 Double Masters version features updated art by illustrator Wisnutan Santoso. This printing brought the card to the modern frame and foil treatment, catering to the commander format community where the card is highly valued for its ability to enable explosive, last-ditch offensive maneuvers. It was received as a functional and aesthetic update to a rare card that had historically been difficult to acquire due to the limited print run of its original release.
