Waterfront Bouncer

The Waterfront Bouncer was released as part of the 2001 World Championship Decks, a series of preconstructed products that replicated the exact card lists used by the top eight finishers at the Magic: The Gathering World Championship. This specific card was included in the deck piloted by professional player Tom van de Logt, who navigated the tournament’s competitive landscape to claim victory that year. The inclusion of these decks allowed players to experience the high-level strategies and specific card interactions that defined the professional meta at the turn of the millennium.

Originally appearing in the Exodus expansion, the card was illustrated by Greg Staples, who opted for a gritty, atmospheric depiction that fits the card’s function as a defensive utility piece. The art captures a sense of imposing physical presence, characteristic of the darker, more visceral aesthetic prevalent in Magic: The Gathering during the late 1990s. While it never became a staple of every format, the World Championship printing remains a noted piece of history for collectors who focus on the legacy of competitive play and the evolution of tournament-legal card design.
