Whale

The Whale token, numbered 14 within the Modern Horizons 3 set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in June 2024. As part of a direct-to-Modern expansion, this token was designed to represent the specific creature created by several cards within the set, most notably the legendary creature 'Svyelunite Priest' or various blue-aligned token generators. These tokens are produced to facilitate gameplay by providing a physical reference for temporary game pieces, adhering to the standardized layout for Magic: The Gathering auxiliary materials.

The artistic direction for this token follows the established aesthetic of the Modern Horizons series, which often revisits classic themes with updated, high-fidelity digital illustration. The design focuses on conveying the massive, aquatic nature of the whale within the game's fantasy ecosystem. While the artist for this specific token is part of the broader pool of contributors for the set, the reception among players has been consistent with expectations for utility-based tokens, valued primarily for their functional role in organized play and casual deck-building.
