What it does
Each player secretly chooses a number 0 or greater, then all players reveal those numbers simultaneously and determine the highest and lowest numbers revealed this way. Wheel of Misfortune deals damage equal to the highest number to each player who chose that number. Each player who didn't choose the lowest number discards their hand, then draws seven cards.

Where it came from
Wheel of Misfortune was released in 2020 as part of the Commander Legends expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Designed specifically for the multiplayer Commander format, the card was conceived as a high-risk, high-reward riff on the classic and powerful spell Wheel of Fortune. By requiring players to bid life totals to determine the outcome, the design aimed to inject a sense of political tension and calculated gambling into the game's social dynamic.
The card’s illustration was created by artist Jesper Ejsing, who captured the chaotic, swirling energy of a magical storm to reflect the card's unpredictable mechanics. Upon its release, it was generally well-received by the Commander community for its ability to create memorable table-talk moments and punish greedy hand-dumping strategies, solidifying its place as a staple for red-aligned decks seeking both card advantage and interaction.
