Where it came from
Whir of Invention was released as part of the Aether Revolt set in 2017, reflecting the steampunk-inspired Kaladesh block of Magic: The Gathering. The card represents the set's central theme of 'Invention,' a mechanical process fueled by the magical resource known as Aether. It was designed to provide players with a versatile tool for searching their decks for artifacts, solidifying its place as a staple in various constructed formats.
The promotional version, numbered 49p, features unique borderless art by artist Eric Deschamps. His depiction captures the frantic energy of an inventor at work, utilizing the vibrant, ornate aesthetic characteristic of the Kaladesh plane. This promotional variant was primarily distributed through Magic: The Gathering store events, intended to reward dedicated players with a visually distinct version of a card that had quickly gained notoriety for its strategic power.
