Where it came from
Will Kenrith was introduced as a planeswalker card in the 2018 Magic: The Gathering set Battlebond, a release specifically designed for Two-Headed Giant team play. This set explored the lore of Kylem, a plane defined by its grand, combat-focused sporting spectacles, where Will and his twin sister, Rowan, were featured as key figures navigating the political and magical landscape of the arena.
The artwork for this specific promotional version was created by illustrator Anna Steinbauer, who is widely recognized for her ethereal and detailed character portraits within the game. Her design captures Will's icy magical affinity and his scholarly, protective temperament, aiming to emphasize the bond between the two siblings. The card was released as a special promo variant, distinguishing it through its unique frame and foil treatment, and was generally well-received by players for its thematic integration into the set's cooperative mechanics.
