Where it came from
Will Kenrith was originally released in 2018 as part of the Battlebond expansion, a set specifically designed for two-player team draft formats. The card represents a planeswalker from the high-fantasy world of Eldraine, characterized by its dual-card mechanic that allows the player to utilize both Will Kenrith and his twin sister, Rowan Kenrith, as their commander. The inclusion of this card in The List—a curated selection of reprints inserted into Play Boosters—reflects its enduring popularity among Commander format players who value its ability to manipulate combat and provide utility.
The character design was crafted to emphasize the sibling dynamic of the Kenrith twins, with Will focusing on ice magic and tactical control. The art reflects the polished, heroic aesthetic typical of Magic: The Gathering’s contemporary era, intended to establish the duo as central figures in the lore of the Eldraine plane. Upon its debut, the card was well-received by the community for its innovative design that incentivized cooperative play, solidifying its place as a staple for fans of blue-aligned spellcasting.
