Wind Drake

Wind Drake was printed in the Magic 2013 core set, released in July 2012. The card is a reprint of a classic blue creature that has appeared in various forms throughout the game's history, serving as a staple limited-format flying creature that establishes the basic mechanical identity of the color blue. It was designed to provide a straightforward, balanced aerial threat, reinforcing the set's focus on accessibility for new players while maintaining the foundational rules of creature combat.

The artwork for this iteration was illustrated by Volkan Baga, who rendered the drake with a focus on its soaring mobility and elemental connection to the sky. Baga, a frequent contributor to Magic: The Gathering, utilized a crisp, dynamic style that highlights the creature's wingspan against a mountainous backdrop. The design was well-received by the community as a functional and aesthetically pleasing update to a long-standing card, fitting seamlessly into the high-fantasy visual identity of the 2013 core set.
