Where it came from
Windfall was originally introduced in the 1997 Urza's Saga expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Designed by Mike Elliott, the card functions as a powerful wheel effect, requiring players to discard their hands and draw new cards equal to the greatest number discarded. Its inclusion in the 2018 Commander Anthology Volume II set reflects its enduring status as a staple in the Commander format, where its ability to disrupt opponents and refresh hand states remains highly valued.
The art featured in the Anthology release retains the classic visual identity associated with the card's history. While the original Urza's Saga illustration by Terese Nielsen became iconic, the reprint versions prioritize mechanical accessibility and thematic consistency across the Commander-focused collection. The card is widely recognized by players for its significant impact on game tempo, often serving as a pivotal moment in multiplayer matches.
