Where it came from
Winds of Change is a card originally printed in the 1994 set Legends, later appearing as part of the Secret Lair series under collector number 1128. This specific iteration was released as part of the 'Secret Lair: Artist Series' drops, which sought to highlight the distinct visual styles of celebrated Magic: The Gathering illustrators. The project provided a dedicated platform for artists to reinterpret classic game mechanics through their unique aesthetic lenses, moving away from the standard house style.
The 1128 version features artwork by the illustrator Johannes Voss. Known for his ethereal and painterly approach, Voss sought to evoke a sense of fleeting motion and elemental transformation, capturing the chaotic, hand-resetting nature of the card's effect. Upon its release, the card was received warmly by players and collectors alike, who valued the fusion of highly playable 'red' utility with the decorative, high-fantasy art style that has become a hallmark of the Secret Lair initiative.
