Winged Words

Winged Words was released in 2019 as part of the Magic: The Gathering Core Set 2020. This set was designed to serve as an accessible entry point for new players while maintaining enough mechanical depth to interest established hobbyists, following a tradition of core sets that provide fundamental gameplay elements. The card functions as a common-rarity spell that rewards players with card draw efficiency if they control a creature with flying, reinforcing the tactical synergy associated with blue-aligned flying creatures in the game's color pie.

The illustration for the card was created by artist Livia Prima, who rendered the subject with a focus on ethereal movement and academic inquiry. Her design captures the thematic essence of blue magic, which is historically associated with knowledge, illusion, and wind. Upon its release, the card was well-received within the Limited play formats, where its cost-reduction mechanic made it a reliable choice for players drafting decks centered around aerial threats and tempo-based strategies.
