Where it came from
Wishclaw Talisman originally debuted in the Throne of Eldraine set in 2019, designed as a flavor-rich artifact that captures the classic folklore trope of a cursed or double-edged bargain. Within the game's mechanics, the card allows a player to tutor for any card in their library, provided they hand control of the artifact over to an opponent, perfectly mirroring the risks inherent in making a deal with a malevolent fey creature.
This specific iteration appears in the Mystery Booster 2 set, which serves as a curated collection of reprints and experimental designs from the history of Magic: The Gathering. The card’s artwork, rendered with a dark, evocative aesthetic, reinforces the theme of desperate trade-offs, and it remains a staple in commander and cube formats where players seek high-risk, high-reward utility pieces that favor strategic political interaction.
