Provenance

Where it came from

Worship was released in 1998 as part of the Urza's Saga set, the first installment in the Urza block for Magic: The Gathering. This set marked a significant shift in game design, focusing heavily on the complex interplay of artifacts and enchantments, which solidified its reputation as one of the most powerful and controversial expansions in the history of the game.

The card features artwork by Christopher Rush, one of the game's most iconic early illustrators. His depiction of a kneeling figure in a state of solemn reverence fits the mechanical intent of the card, which allows a player to remain in the game by reducing damage taken while they control a creature. Upon its release, it was regarded as a unique defensive utility card that rewarded players for maintaining a board presence.
