Where it came from
Zur the Enchanter was originally introduced in the 2006 Coldsnap expansion for Magic: The Gathering, designed as a powerful legendary creature that centers on the enchantment-focused strategy of the Esper color identity. The card quickly became a cornerstone for players interested in combo-oriented gameplay due to its ability to search for low-cost enchantments and place them directly onto the battlefield, a mechanic that defined its reputation within the Commander format.
The 2022 Double Masters version, marked as collector number 297, features updated art that maintains the character's icy, imposing aesthetic while aligning with the high-gloss, premium treatment of the set. Illustrators for this iteration aimed to capture Zur’s status as a master of stasis and magical binding, ensuring the visual identity remained consistent with the card's history while providing a refined aesthetic for collectors seeking definitive versions of iconic legends.
