Where it came from
Released in 1993, this volume serves as a manga adaptation based on the role-playing game Albert Odyssey, originally developed by Sunsoft for the Super Famicom. The publication reflects the early 1990s trend of cross-media marketing, where Japanese game developers sought to deepen player engagement by expanding their fantasy worlds into serialized literature and printed media.
The adaptation was illustrated by Takebayashi Takeshi, who translated the game's high-fantasy aesthetics into a structured narrative format. While the game was noted for its traditional turn-based mechanics and classic hero's journey tropes, the manga focused on condensing the episodic nature of the adventure into a cohesive visual experience. It was received as a standard promotional companion piece, catering primarily to fans of the original console title who were interested in exploring its art and world-building through a new medium.
