Album studiosorum Academiae lugduno batavae MDLXXV-MDCCCLXXV: accedunt nomina curatorum et professorum per eadem secula

Published in 1875 to coincide with the tercentenary celebrations of Leiden University, the Album studiosorum serves as a monumental register of every student matriculated at the institution between its founding in 1575 and 1875. The compilation was an initiative of the university senate, intended to provide a comprehensive and permanent scholarly record of the academic community that had shaped Dutch intellectual life over three centuries. It remains an essential reference for historians, researchers, and genealogists tracing the trajectories of scholars, theologians, and public figures who passed through the university during the Dutch Golden Age and beyond.

The volume includes not only the exhaustive chronological list of students but also detailed rosters of the university's curators and professors across those three hundred years. The design emphasizes archival utility and gravitas, reflecting the institutional pride of the University of Leiden as it commemorated its long-standing academic legacy. While it was produced by the university administration rather than a single artistic illustrator, its methodical layout and clear typography established a standard for academic record-keeping in European universities of the nineteenth century.
