Album studiosorum Academiae Lugduno Batavae, 1575-1725

The Album studiosorum Academiae Lugduno Batavae, 1575-1725, serves as a monumental register of the students who matriculated at Leiden University during its first 150 years. Compiled and published in the late 19th century by the university archivist Willem Nicolaas du Rieu, the volume was intended to provide a comprehensive, scholarly record of the scholars and notable figures who passed through one of Europe's most prestigious intellectual hubs during the Dutch Golden Age.

The design of the work adheres to the rigorous standards of 19th-century archival publication, focusing on historical accuracy and accessibility for genealogists and academic historians. By transcribing the original handwritten registers into a standardized printed format, Du Rieu aimed to preserve a fragile link to the past, offering an organized index of the intellectual migration that shaped the university's enduring reputation across the continent.
