Where it came from
Double Mints is a celebrated manga series written and illustrated by Nakamura Asumiko, initially serialized in the magazine Mellow Kiss beginning in 2008. The narrative explores the complex, dark, and often volatile psychological reunion of two men who share the same name, delving into themes of obsession, morality, and the lingering influence of their shared high school past.
Nakamura Asumiko is widely noted for her distinctively elegant, spindly art style and her ability to weave intricate emotional tensions into compact narratives. Double Mints is frequently cited as one of her more hard-boiled works, moving away from traditional romantic tropes to focus on a gritty, character-driven exploration of power dynamics and identity. The series has been praised by critics for its atmospheric storytelling and successfully adapted into a live-action film in 2017.
