Moriarty the Patriot, titled Yuukoku no Moriarty in Japan, is a manga series written by Ryōsuke Takeuchi and illustrated by Hikaru Miyoshi, based on the classic Sherlock Holmes works by Arthur Conan Doyle. The series serves as a reimagining of the Victorian-era canon, centering on William James Moriarty as a charismatic protagonist seeking to dismantle the rigid British class structure through intricate criminal schemes. First serialized in Jump Square in 2016, this volume introduces readers to the dark, stylized atmosphere of the series, establishing a tone that balances philosophical inquiries about justice with a gothic-inspired aesthetic.

The character designs were crafted by Hikaru Miyoshi to evoke a sharp, elegant look that contrasts the grime of industrial 19th-century London with the refined intellectualism of the protagonists. The volume incorporates specific narrative acts that frame Moriarty’s rise, alongside supplemental omake material that provides glimpses into the characters' personal lives outside the main plot. Upon its debut, the series was well-received for its unique perspective on classic literature, garnering a devoted following that eventually led to a successful anime adaptation and a steady expansion of the franchise's footprint in both Japanese and international markets.
