Where it came from
Published as a companion to the acclaimed manga series Monster, this volume serves as a narrative bridge and deep dive into the psyche of its protagonist, Dr. Kenzo Tenma. It was created to expand upon the complex moral dilemmas presented in the original serial, offering readers a closer examination of the character's journey from a brilliant neurosurgeon to a man forced to confront the darkest corners of human nature.
Naoki Urasawa designed this supplemental work to maintain the stark, atmospheric noir aesthetic that defined the Monster series. The text explores the thematic underpinnings of the story, focusing on the concepts of equality in death and the responsibilities of the healer. Upon its release, the volume was well received by fans of the series for providing additional context to Tenma's internal struggles and the broader philosophical questions posed by the manga.
