Monster was originally serialized in the Japanese manga anthology Big Comic Original between 1994 and 2001, later collected into eighteen volumes. Written and illustrated by Naoki Urasawa, the series follows Dr. Kenzo Tenma, a Japanese neurosurgeon living in Germany who faces a moral crisis after saving the life of a young boy who grows up to be a psychopathic killer.
