Neues Real-Schullexicon enthaltend die zur Erklärung der alten Klassiker nothwendigen Hülfswissenschaften, vornämlich Geographie, Geschichte, Philosophie, Alterthümer und Mythologie

The Neues Real-Schullexicon was compiled by Carl Philipp Funke, a prominent German educator and philologist, and published in the late 18th century. It emerged during a period of rigorous pedagogical reform in German secondary education, specifically the Philanthropinum movement, which emphasized a structured, multidisciplinary approach to the study of classical antiquity. Funke designed the work as a comprehensive reference guide to support students in navigating the complexities of Latin and Greek literature.

The lexicon functions as an essential pedagogical tool, organizing historical, geographical, and mythological knowledge to provide the necessary context for interpreting classical texts. By synthesizing vast amounts of information into a single volume, Funke aimed to demystify the ancient world for scholars who lacked the broad background knowledge required to fully appreciate the classics. The work was well-received within educational circles of the time for its systematic clarity and its commitment to making classical humanities accessible within a modern schooling framework.
