Super Manbe

Super Manbe is a classic work by the prolific mangaka Tsunoda Jirou, a pivotal figure in the post-war Japanese manga landscape known for his versatility across genres ranging from horror and spiritual occultism to comedy. Created in the 1970s, this series captures the eccentric and often surreal humor that defined Tsunoda’s style during that era, blending whimsical character designs with the absurd narrative pacing typical of the time.

The series remains a cult piece of Japanese comic history, serving as a testament to Tsunoda’s ability to inject personality into simple, stylized character illustrations. While Tsunoda is more globally recognized for his influential horror titles like Kyōfu Shinbun, Super Manbe is often sought out by collectors of Showa-era manga who appreciate the distinct, lighthearted aesthetic and creative freedom inherent in the publisher's output during the period.
