Pennsylvania German pioneers; a publication of the original lists of arrivals in the port of Philadelphia from 1727 to 1808

This work was compiled by Ralph Beaver Strassburger and edited by William John Hinke, originally published in 1934 by the Pennsylvania German Society. It serves as a definitive scholarly resource documenting the immigration of German-speaking people to Pennsylvania between 1727 and 1808. The project was conceived to preserve the integrity of the original ship manifests and oaths of allegiance required by the colonial government, which were previously scattered or difficult for genealogists and historians to access.

The publication is widely respected for its meticulous transcription of thousands of passenger lists, providing a primary record of the families who settled the American frontier. Strassburger, a prominent businessman and enthusiast of Pennsylvania German history, funded the exhaustive effort to ensure these genealogical records remained accessible. The resulting multi-volume set is considered a cornerstone for North American migration studies, lauded by researchers for its rigor and for providing a coherent narrative of the demographic shifts that defined early Pennsylvania.
