Pennsylvania German Pioneers: A Publication of the Original Lists of Arrivals in the Port of Philadelphia from 1727 to 1808. 1785 - 1808. Indexes

This work serves as a foundational reference for genealogy, documenting the arrival of German-speaking immigrants in Philadelphia during the 18th and early 19th centuries. The project was rooted in the preservation of the original captains' lists required by the Pennsylvania provincial government to track non-British subjects entering the colony, which were later consolidated and transcribed to assist researchers in tracing the lineage of the Pennsylvania Dutch population.

The editorial effort was led by Ralph Beaver Strassburger, who sought to rectify the errors and omissions found in earlier colonial records. Published to provide a comprehensive index of names, ships, and arrival dates, the work reflects a rigorous commitment to historical accuracy. It has remained a standard tool for historians and genealogists, valued for its detailed transcription of oath-of-allegiance signatures that otherwise would have been lost to time.
