Pennsylvania German Pioneers: A Publication of the Original Lists of Arrivals in the Port of Philadelphia from 1727 to 1808. 1727 - 1775

Pennsylvania German Pioneers was published in 1934 as a comprehensive three-volume work edited by Ralph Beaver Strassburger and revised by William John Hinke. The collection serves as an essential genealogical resource, transcribing the ship passenger lists for German-speaking immigrants arriving in Philadelphia between 1727 and 1808. The project was conceived as a scholarly effort to organize and preserve the records of the Palatine migration, which were held by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The volumes were commissioned by the Pennsylvania German Society, which sought to formalize the documentation of eighteenth-century immigration patterns. Strassburger, a historian and philanthropist, invested significant resources into verifying these lists against the original oaths of allegiance and abjuration signed by arrivals at the Philadelphia courthouse. The resulting work remains a definitive primary source for researchers tracing colonial-era Germanic ancestry in the United States.
