Tachinomi Goreijou

Tachinomi Goreijou, authored by Matsumoto Asumu, is a manga series centered on the subculture of Japanese standing bars, or tachinomi. The work emerged from the niche gourmet and lifestyle manga boom that highlights specific culinary experiences and the social atmosphere found in informal, hole-in-the-wall establishments. Through its episodic format, the series explores the unique camaraderie between patrons and the intimate, often fleeting, interactions that define the standing-bar experience.

Matsumoto Asumu's visual approach prioritizes a grounded, observational style, focusing on the tactile details of the food and the lived-in, unpretentious aesthetic of the bars themselves. The narrative tone is generally relaxed and appreciative, aiming to capture the everyday charm of post-work dining culture. It is regarded by readers as a slice-of-life exploration that serves both as an entertaining narrative and an anecdotal guide to a specific corner of Japanese urban nightlife.
