Ultraman x Osomatsu-san

The Ultraman x Osomatsu-san collaboration emerged from a 2016 promotional campaign designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ultraman franchise while capitalizing on the massive resurgence of the Osomatsu-san anime series. The project brought together the iconic, larger-than-life heroes of Tsuburaya Productions with the irreverent, deadpan comedic style of the Matsuno brothers, resulting in a series of collaborative goods and visual crossovers that leaned into the absurd aesthetic of both properties.

The illustrations for this collaboration were handled by the artist Wannyanpu, who is known for their distinctive, expressive character designs. In this volume, the artist successfully blended the gritty, silver-and-red suit aesthetics of various Ultras with the signature facial expressions and slouching postures of the six Matsuno siblings. Upon its release, the work was received by fans as a playful curiosity that prioritized character-driven humor over the traditional high-stakes action typically associated with the Ultraman mythos.
