Where it came from
The Ultraman Tiga comic series illustrated by Tony Wong was produced during the late 1990s, emerging as part of the massive regional popularity of the Ultraman franchise in Hong Kong. As a prolific and influential figure in the Hong Kong manhua industry, Wong adapted the narrative of the 1996 Japanese television series, which had marked a significant departure for the franchise by introducing the concept of multi-type transformations.
Wong utilized his characteristic dynamic art style, defined by high-contrast ink work and energetic panel composition, to translate the live-action tokusatsu aesthetic into a printed medium. This adaptation was aimed at a younger demographic familiar with the television broadcast, serving as both a supplementary narrative and a showcase for the unique stylistic synthesis between Japanese science fiction iconography and the kinetic sensibilities of traditional Chinese martial arts comics.
