Vitamin (YEO Ho-Kyoung)

Vitamin, written and illustrated by Yeo Ho-Kyoung, emerged from the mid-2000s wave of South Korean manhwa that gained international traction as the digital comic market began to expand. The series reflects the intense academic pressures and emotional volatility characteristic of the Korean high school experience during this period, focusing on themes of friendship, identity, and the struggle to navigate adolescence in a high-stakes environment.

Yeo Ho-Kyoung’s visual style in Vitamin is marked by a clean, emotive aesthetic that emphasizes the characters' inner lives and interpersonal dynamics. By focusing on the candid, often fragmented nature of young adulthood, the work resonated with readers who saw their own anxieties reflected in the page. It remains a notable example of the slice-of-life genre, valued for its earnest tone and its contribution to the broader cultural dialogue surrounding student life in Korea.
