Provenance

Where it came from

The Magellan card (OP02-085) was released in 2023 as part of the 'Paramount War' expansion for the One Piece Card Game. This set was designed to capture the intensity of the Marineford arc from the source material, focusing on the high-stakes conflict between the World Government and the Whitebeard Pirates. As the warden of the underwater prison Impel Down, Magellan appears in this set to represent the formidable security forces deployed to maintain order during the narrative's climax.

The design of the card leans into the character's toxic 'Doku Doku no Mi' devil fruit powers, utilizing dark, foreboding color palettes typical of the set's artistic direction. Developed by Bandai, the card functions within the game's mechanics to impose restrictive effects on opponents, reflecting the character's role as an impenetrable obstacle. It was received by players as a key strategic tool for controlling the game board, specifically utilized by those playing decks aligned with the Impel Down trait.
