Where it came from
The Magellan leader card (OP02-071) was released as part of the Paramount War expansion for the One Piece Card Game in late 2022. This set drew its thematic inspiration from the Marineford arc of the series, a pivotal storyline centered on the high-stakes battle to rescue Ace. The card features Magellan, the former warden of the Impel Down prison, whose inclusion highlights the tactical tension inherent in the game's second major release.
The alternate art version of this card utilizes a distinct aesthetic style that emphasizes the character's formidable presence as the wielder of the Doku Doku no Mi. By employing a more illustrative and dramatic composition than the standard base card, the designers aimed to capture the intensity of his signature poison-based abilities. Upon its introduction, the card was well-received by players for its unique playstyle mechanics, which focus on resource disruption and imposing strict limitations on opponents.
