Where it came from
The Magellan (OP02-085) character card debuted in the Paramount War expansion set of the One Piece Card Game, released to expand upon the Impel Down arc of the source material. The card was designed to mechanically represent Magellan’s role as the Warden of Impel Down, utilizing resource-depleting effects that mirror his dominance over the prison's ecosystem. Its inclusion in the second booster set helped solidify the purple color identity, focusing on a strategy of mana ramp and character reduction.
The alternate art version of this card features a stylized, illustrative interpretation of Magellan that emphasizes his imposing stature and iconic Venom-Venom Fruit powers. Like other high-rarity cards in the set, the artwork was crafted to appeal to collectors by featuring dynamic compositions that contrast with the standard card illustrations. Upon its release, this variant was well-received by the competitive community and collectors alike for its distinct aesthetic, which captures the threatening atmosphere of the Impel Down warden.
