Provenance

Where it came from

Released as part of the 'Carrying On His Will' set for the One Piece Card Game, this Monkey.D.Garp character card serves as a tribute to one of the most revered figures in the franchise. Introduced during the series' long-running Marineford and post-war narrative arcs, the design focuses on his role as the legendary Vice Admiral and patriarch of the Monkey family. The illustration captures the weight of his legacy and the conflicting loyalties he navigates, aligning with the set's thematic emphasis on the transmission of ideals between generations.

The card was produced by Bandai to expand the strategic depth of the Blue and Black color decks, emphasizing Garp’s tactical prowess on the battlefield. Illustrators for the One Piece Card Game generally aim to mirror the dynamic, high-contrast aesthetic of Eiichiro Oda’s original manga panels, ensuring that the character's imposing posture and iconic military coat are rendered with technical accuracy. Upon release, the card was received positively by the competitive community for its utility and its ability to anchor character-focused strategies within the game's evolving meta.
