Where it came from
The Portgas D. Ace character card (OP02-013) originates from the Paramount War expansion of the One Piece Card Game, released by Bandai in late 2022. This specific card, distinguished by its ultra-rare manga-style alternate art, pays homage to the pivotal Marineford story arc. It was created to celebrate the series' long-running narrative legacy, featuring a dynamic, sketch-inspired aesthetic that captures the high-stakes intensity of the character’s final battles.
The design of this parallel variant departs from the standard card frames, utilizing a monochrome, manga-panel-influenced layout that highlights Ace’s signature pyrokinesis. The artwork was crafted to evoke the raw emotion of Eiichiro Oda’s original illustrations, appealing to both competitive players and long-term collectors. Upon release, the card quickly became a centerpiece of the set due to its extreme scarcity and the iconic status of the character, cementing its position as a highly sought-after collectible within the hobby.
