Where it came from
The Shanks leader card (OP09-001) from the 'Emperors in the New World' set is part of the One Piece Card Game, which launched in 2022 to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Eiichiro Oda's globally acclaimed manga series. As a leader card, this item represents a foundational element of gameplay, designed to serve as the central figure around which a player constructs their deck strategy, utilizing unique leader abilities that mirror the character's narrative role as a formidable Yonko.
The visual design of this parallel version draws from the high-stakes aesthetic of the series, featuring intricate foiling and specialized artwork meant to distinguish it from the standard card rarity. The production process emphasizes premium card stock and vivid, high-fidelity printing to appeal to both competitive players and collectors of trading card game rarities. Upon release, the set was received as a significant expansion that further integrated the most powerful figures of the One Piece world into the game’s meta-structure.
