Provenance

Where it came from

The Yamato character card (OP02-042) was released as part of the Paramount War expansion set for the One Piece Card Game in late 2022. This set drew heavily from the Marineford arc of the long-running manga and anime, focusing on the high-stakes battle between the Whitebeard Pirates and the Navy. Yamato, a pivotal figure introduced during the Wano Country arc, was included in this set to highlight the character's role as a powerhouse combatant who wields the power of the Guardian Deity of Wano.

The card’s design features distinct artwork that emphasizes Yamato’s signature kanabo weapon and protective aura. As a Super Rare card, the design choices were aimed at reflecting the character’s formidable status within the game's mechanics, utilizing a high-contrast style typical of the Bandai card art direction for the series. Upon release, it was well-received by competitive players for its utility in defensive strategies and by fans for its accurate representation of the character's fierce personality.
