Where it came from
The Altaria card, numbered BW48 within the Black Star Promos series, was released in 2012 as part of the promotional expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. During this era, the Black Star Promo sets served as a bridge for players to acquire specific cards outside of traditional booster packs, often through organized play events or specialized merchandise bundles. This particular card features the Humming Pokémon, Altaria, which was showcased during the Black & White series' emphasis on the newly introduced Dragon typing.
The design of this promotional release follows the aesthetic conventions of the late BW era, utilizing the classic card layout that highlights the Dragon-type attributes. Illustrations for such promos were typically commissioned from established TCG artists to maintain visual consistency across the broader set. As a promotional release, it was well-received by players looking to bolster their decks with specific utility cards, and it remains a documented piece of the transitionary period that led into the later XY expansions.
