What it does
Flip a coin. If tails, this attack does nothing. If heads, the Defending Pokémon is now Paralyzed.
During your opponent's next turn, any damage done to Altaria by attacks from your opponent's Evolved Pokémon is reduced by 30 (after applying Weakness and Resistance).
It looks like a fluffy cloud when it is in flight. It hums with its soprano voice.

Where it came from
Altaria 12/106 was released in the Great Encounters expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, which debuted in North America in early 2008. This set was part of the Diamond & Pearl Series, a pivotal era that introduced new game mechanics and emphasized the aesthetic integration of Pokémon from the Sinnoh region. The inclusion of Altaria, a Dragon/Flying-type Pokémon from the third generation, reflects the set's broader goal of bridging classic Pokémon favorites with the updated card design language of the time.
The card features an illustration by Midori Harada, an artist well-regarded for her ethereal and soft-focus style within the Pokémon TCG community. Harada often captures the serene, almost mystical qualities of Dragon-type Pokémon, and her rendition of Altaria emphasizes its cloud-like plumage and peaceful nature. Upon release, the card was received as a standard Rare, valued by players for its type-specific utility in deck building and appreciated by collectors for the painterly quality that defined the mid-2000s card art era.
