Where it came from
The Giratina promo card, numbered XY184, was released in 2016 as part of the XY Black Star Promos set. It was distributed specifically within the Mythical Pokémon Collection: Arceus box, which served to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the Pokémon franchise. This collection was part of a larger, year-long initiative that highlighted various legendary and mythical creatures, providing collectors with exclusive promotional cards and pins.
The illustration for this card was created by artist Kouki Saitou, who has contributed to the Pokémon Trading Card Game for many years. Saitou’s design captures the Ghost- and Dragon-type Pokémon in a stylized, high-contrast pose that emphasizes its intimidating presence. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players and collectors alike, noted for its unique artwork and its role in completing the series of anniversary-focused mythical promotional releases.
