Where it came from
The Mew ex card from the 30th Celebration collection was released as part of a commemorative effort to mark three decades of the Pokémon franchise. Designed to pay homage to the original generation of pocket monsters, this iteration of the Mythical Pokémon features the classic psychic typing and mechanics that defined the early days of the trading card game while incorporating the updated 'ex' play style, which emphasizes high hit points and powerful attacks balanced by the risk of granting the opponent extra prize cards upon defeat.
The artwork for this series was crafted to evoke a sense of nostalgia for long-time collectors, utilizing a modern aesthetic that remains faithful to the iconic appearance of Mew as it first appeared in the Kanto region. Upon its release, the card was widely received by the community as a thoughtful tribute to the game's history, valued both for its competitive utility in specific deck builds and as a celebratory memento that honors the enduring legacy of the franchise since its debut in the late 1990s.
