Where it came from
The Mew ex card from the 2021 Celebrations: Classic Collection was released as part of the Pokémon Trading Card Game's 25th-anniversary expansion. This specific card is a faithful reprint of the original Mew ex from the 2005 EX Legend Maker set, designed to commemorate iconic cards from the game's history. It utilizes the distinct aesthetic of the mid-2000s era, featuring the original card layout and the specific holographic treatment that defined the EX-series cards.
The original 2005 illustration was created by Ryo Ueda, whose work during that period often emphasized the ethereal and mythical nature of legendary Pokémon. By including this piece in the Classic Collection, The Pokémon Company sought to evoke nostalgia among long-time players who valued the strategic significance and artistic style of the EX era. Upon its re-release, the card was widely received as a highlight of the sub-set, serving as a tangible bridge between the game's competitive history and its modern milestone celebration.
