What it does
This card stays in play when you play it. Discard this card if another Stadium card comes into play.
Whenever a player tries to retreat a Pokémon during his or her turn, that player flips a coin. If heads, that player retreats that Pokémon (and discards Energy normally). If tails, that Pokémon can't retreat this turn (the player doesn't discard any Energy).

Where it came from
Mirage Stadium was released as part of the Skyridge expansion in 2003, which serves as the final set produced by Wizards of the Coast for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. This set was unique for its integration with the Game Boy Advance game Pokémon Crystal, allowing players to scan cards using the Nintendo e-Reader peripheral to unlock specific items or mini-games within the digital interface. As a result, the card designs from this period often emphasized distinct borders and layout modifications to accommodate the scanning technology.
The card was illustrated by Keiji Kinebuchi, a frequent contributor to the early TCG who was known for his clean, digital-style aesthetic. Like many cards in the Skyridge set, the artwork sought to capture a sense of architectural mystery consistent with the 'mirage' theme. Within the game's competitive environment, the card functioned as a stadium card that enforced strict conditions on the player's active Pokémon, reflecting the strategic complexity that defined the late WotC-era mechanics before the license transitioned to The Pokémon Company International.
